Curing Infertility through Ayurveda

Ria is an accomplished fashion designer. She is in her mid-50s, suave, intelligent, someone who has an eye for innovation and technique. She has a loving partner, Mohit Kale, a successful entrepreneur whose business ventures and takeovers keep him busy, round-the-clock. Ten years of wedlock, but never an opportunity of changing diapers and singing lullaby came for this working couple. Infertility stepped into the married life of this power couple. A sour reality for them, but true! Can there be a solution in Ayurveda–of turning a simple desire of achieving parenthood into reality and fast?

Infertility on The Rise

Stories of infertility are quite common these days. Studies reveal that the average sperm count in males has decreased by 48 percent since 1940. Women’s infertility ratio is on the rise, with lifestyle ailments like obesity and diabetes ruining the fertility index.

The Indian Society of Assisted Reproduction shares an alarming fact–infertility currently affects 10-14 percent of the Indian population, with the urban population showing higher rates with one out of six couples affected. About 27.5 million couples in India trying their level best to conceive suffer from infertility. Researchers believe that the increased use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers could be the cause. Of course, the rising levels of modern-day stress in men and women are contributing to the infertility rate in India 2018.

Infertility can happen because of several other factors. In women, ovarian and uterine problems, increasing age, endometriosis, PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome), genital TB, and menstrual problems create an imbalance of the three Doshas (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha). Male infertility happens because of infections, hormone imbalances, problems in ejaculation, etc.

Ayurveda: The Complete Approach to Fertility

Ayurveda has a long tradition of promoting pregnancy. It improves the overall health and quality of life of an individual by strengthening the self-healing and balancing mechanisms of the body. The Ayurvedic medicine for infertility focuses on the holistic treatment without relying on any foreign substance. Here are some promising Treatments For Infertility in Ayurveda:

Swedanam: It is a very useful therapy that induces sweating in individual(s) seeking parenthood. Perspiration helps get rid of body impurities and toxins through sweat glands. This is a useful therapy for curing Vata dosh.

Shatavari: This Ayurvedic medicine for ovulation has ingredients such as cumin (to purify the uterus), turmeric, sesame seeds, fenugreek, piper longum (long pepper) to treat blocked fallopian tubes.

Diet: Grandma was always right. She still is. Include kitchen ingredients such as garlic and licorice daily to pep up the fertility of your reproductive organs. Jamun, when taken with honey regularly, helps cure infertility too. Include almonds, nuts, fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and dairy products such as milk to cure female hormonal imbalance.

Exercise: Healthy diet when balanced with regular exercise (yoga asanas) is a suitable method of Ayurvedic treatment for ovulation. You can do Paschimottanasana, or Sarvangasana, which are effective to treat female infertility.

Women Ayurveda Wellness continues to be the safest and best route to treat infertility.
